Welcome to Blue Boat
Welcome to Blue Boat, a new blog hosted by the UUA’s Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries! Blue Boat is a space to share stories, successes, resources and information for youth, young adult and campus-based groups and individuals, as well as the advisors and staff who work with them. It includes independent areas for those groups, as well as a single home page to show the connections and common threads among youth and young adult programs.
The UU online community, especially for youth and young adults, is already thriving. We hope Blue Boat will complement existing blogs and sites and be a tool for enhancing UU youth and young adult ministry by offering inspirational stories, sharing best practices, and promoting resources and opportunities in an easily accessible format. We will also be seeking guest posts and regular contributions, so if you are interested, please let us know!
The YaYA office will link its communications together with Blue Boat’s content through email newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms, to ensure that the information is available in whatever format you prefer. Blue Boat is a work in progress, and we welcome suggestions and comments for how to improve your user experience as a youth, young adult, or someone who works with them.
This blog is in the proud tradition of youth and young adult newsletters, magazines and publications created over the decades: Onward, The Youth Leader, The Liberal’s Challenge, Forward Together, The Promethean, The Nameless Newsprint, People Soup and Synapse, to name a few. We’ve titled it in honor of the popular hymn “Blue Boat Home” by Peter Mayer, to recognize how important it is for our faith and our ministry to hold youth and young adults during their adolescence and life transitions, their searching and discovering, and to be, in Mayer’s words, “(the) waves upholding me.”
May it be so, may it be so if we make it so.
Warmly,
Carey McDonald

Greetings from Oak Ridge, Tn. I have been checking out this new blog and so far I am loving what I see. I think reaching out to young adults is an awesome thing. At this year’s past GA I was so excited to meet so many young adults. I look forward to hearing from other young UU adults across the globe.
May I get a copy of the song,”Blue Boat Home”
Thank,
Luke Markve
