The North American Event of the Year for UU Young Adults

OPUS, THE UU YOUNG ADULT event of the year in North America, is coming to Canada, August 8-12, 2012, at Unicamp, in Honeywood, Ontario (1.5 hours north of Toronto).

Opus is the annual spiritual retreat of the Continental Unitarian Universalist Young Adult Network, an intentional community of seekers exploring liberal religion, social justice and diversity. In the spirit of strengthening our young adult community — and having some serious UU fun — we are heading there to (re)connect! Come join this respectful and transparent environment where everyone between 18 and 35 years old is welcomed and encouraged to participate. To learn more about what makes Opus so amazing, check out this video.

Program

This year we are celebrating “The Summertime of Our Lives.” We will be exploring growth, profusion, maturing, and being fruitful. Workshops will foster artistic and musical expressions, philosophical discussions, environmental action, and spiritual reflection. Diverse and dynamic worships will happen each day, co-led by the Chaplains and us.

Add to this the sweet sound of the campfire, fresh air in our lungs, fun in the water, and time away from the outside world, and you have the makings of a fabulous retreat. We will be adventurous and indolent, as gardeners and tasters, philosophers and fools, creators and consumers.

Transportation

Rides will be available from the Toronto airport and other transportation hubs. Transportation may also be available from Buffalo and/or Detroit (though there may be a small cost involved). Stay tuned and let us know if this would be helpful to you.

Children

Children are welcome, and childcare will be provided.

Registration and Cost

Registration is through Connect UU. Costs are:

Early bird: $235 ($75 by April 30th, remainder by June 30th)
On time: $270 ($75 by June 30th, the rest by July 31st)
Late: $300 by July 31st.
Children: $100, and must be registered by June 30th.

Notes for United States citizens

You will need a passport to get back into your country (generally a good thing). It can take as little as three weeks or as long as four months to get one, so apply now if you don’t already have one. If you have not applied for a passport before, you will need to go in person, and offices are generally only open Monday-Friday. Here are two useful sites, the first tells you what identification and forms you need to apply and the second tells you where you can apply in your area:

A regular passport (Passport Book) costs $135. A Passport Card costs $55, but is only valid at land or sea entry points (i.e., not for international air travel). Passports in the U.S. are valid for 10 years, unless you were under age 16 when you received yours, in which case it is only valid for 5 years.

    Hi,

I was browsing your blueboat.blogs.uua.org website this morning and noticed several broken link on this page:
    http://blueboat.blogs.uua.org/young-adults/opus-2012-register-now/

I was wondering whether this contact form was the best way to forward you the broken links that I came across.

And while you’re updating your page, I wondered if you’d be open to including some further resources that could help people struggling with similar issues.

    Best Regards
    Ashlee Acevedo

      Hi Ashlee,

This event happened in 2012, and the links were likely dis-activated by the event organizers. We welcome comments, so please write again!

      Thanks – Ed.
