The word “passionate” encapsulates recent Washington High School graduate Robert Jensen in a nutshell. When he speaks about his faith, about social work and the good he hopes to do in the world, his energized words come at such fast speeds that it seems like he is speaking in energized bursts…

In his freshman year, Jensen, 18, got involved with the Gay Straight Alliance, peer counseling and junior varsity swimming. He also became a Boy Scout and became involved as a youth leader at the local Unitarian Universalist Church.”I have a passion for social justice, and it was really great to be a resource for other students,” he says.

This ties in to his faith and work with the Unitarian Universalist Church, for which he is in Providence, R.I., June 25 to 29 for the church’s general assembly, themed, “Love Reaches Out.” He will be giving an invocation today (June 27).

“It’s a really big moment when we address some of the major things we want to work on democratically as a church,” Jensen says. “It’s really big that I got invited to give the call to worship, considering how many people will be there from all over the country.”
