5 Ways to Support Youth In Your Congregation

A.K.A. 5 Things Your Congregation Will Thank You For Our survey of 351 Unitarian Universalist (UU) youth provided some real gems and had some real flaws. Here are the five major takeaways we learned: 1. Build Opportunities for Connection This survey shows us that our youth want to be involved in the life of their congregation because they are already invested in their congregation. Think about the times when you feel most welcome in a situation. Did someone invite you to the party, to worship, to a concert? When you showed up, did they ignore you or did they welcome you and engage you in conversation?   Invite your youth to worship! If they can’t make…

In His Own Words by Caleb Leman I want to serve this faith because I believe that the elusive goals of happiness and truth are much easier obtained with the support of trust and love through human connection.   Our Unitarian Universalist (UU) faith offers a unique community that makes profound impacts on how people think and act. Growing up, I went through many different Religious Education curricula and with each class learned more about what I believe. For example, an ongoing discussion in my youth group is on the subjectivity of morality, which continues to push me to keep an open mind and seek to understand why I believe what I believe. The open…

Youth Observer 2015-2016 Olivia Calvi

In Her Own Words By Olivia Calvi Growing up Unitarian Universalist, I felt a lot of pressure to figure out what my beliefs were. The adults in my life would always tell me that I could believe anything I wanted to believe. I felt like that message carried a hidden one: I had to believe something and I had to know what I believed. As you can imagine that caused a great inner struggle when I went through Coming of Age. I got through the experience, but I never really gained much from it because I did not feel the need to solidify my beliefs. My credo was a wish-wash of what could be, but…
