30 Days of Love: 14/30

How many times do you hear in the media about hateful or bigoted speech or actions and think, “I wish there was something I could do!”

It happens to me all the time.

Rarely do I have any “bright ideas” of safe, effective, positive responses that are so easy even I, my friends, or my congregation could do them.

Well, Standing on the Side of Love has some GREAT ideas to counteract the occasional bursts of negativity that our culture sees.

Even if it’s just collecting and sending on short notes of sympathy and support for specific victims, there are ways we can show our neighborhoods that there are folks not only creating loving communities, but these folks are working to spread the faith value of love throughout the wider world.

If you decide to use those brilliant golden LOVE tee-shirts and banners, SSL has a terrific one-page resource called “Responding to Hate Groups” linked on today’s page to make it easier to engage with love.

So next time (and, unfortunately, there will be a “next time”) you see something that hurts your heart, don’t just sit at home hurting – remember that LOVE is not just a noun, it’s also a verb!

February 01, 2013. Sign up for “Rapid Response”.

Visit the 30 Days of Love action guide for tips on how to respond.
