Examine your Call

71159_65259582414_4395437_nWe’re excited to announce a new program for youth who have considered becoming a minister or religious professional! Summer Seminary is a three-day, affordable experience for high school students (in grades 10-12 or equivalent for the 2012-13 school year), hosted in Boston by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the New England Region.  It is open to all youth in Unitarian Universalist congregations who have thought about a career as a professional religious leader.

The life of being a minister or a religious educator is a rewarding and unique one. Through Summer Seminary, participants will examine their own sense of mission, or “call” to become a UU religious leader, and engage in worship, discussion and theological exploration. They will also learn about the path to becoming a religious professional, what it takes and what opportunities are available to then. Participants will tour Harvard Divinity School and have the chance to talk with current seminary students, parish ministers, chaplains and religious educators.

Visit our page at www.uua.org/summerseminary, or click here to learn more or download an application. Applications are due by May 15th. The fee for participation is $200, which includes travel costs, and scholarship are available. We also encourage congregations to consider supporting their youth applicants by covering the participation fee.

This year is operated as a pilot program, but in years to come we intend to expand Summer Seminary to a week-long experience at different theological schools. Join us in the first year of what we hope to be a fabulous and valuable experience for youth from across the country!

Oh, how I wish that this had been around last summer! My son, who is finishing up his freshman year in college, would have *loved* this! His senior year he did his high school internship with our minister.

Has anyone heard back yet? The website says we will hear back BY June 1st.

      Hi Rachael,

We’re a few days behind with our notifications because we extended the deadline by an extra week and half. You should hear by June 10th at the latest, we had lots of awesome applications from youth all over the country!
